Let’s Make a Deal, Pens Creep Toward Trade Deadline

The Penguins haven’t been playing their best hockey lately, and the state of the roster is banged up. With that being the case, we toss around some ideas and scenarios about potential trades and needs of the Penguins as the NHL trade deadline approaches! We also recap the games from last week, Crosby’s 1000th point, and the bizarre coaching carousel in Montreal.

We also touch on some Pirates and Steelers in 223! An extended interview with Bob Nutting and Andrew McCutchen’s Players’ Tribune article were released. Did these affect anyone’s perception on things heading into Spring Training? And the Steelers are focused on re-signing Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. Ben Roethlisberger’s successor? Not so much… All that, and more, in Episode 223!

Three Big Pens Wins, Fleury Trade Rumors, & Steelers/Pirates News

The Pens returned from the All-Star break in strong form, winning games against Nashville, Columbus, and St. Louis. We talk a bit about each game and focus on what a win against the Blue Jackets might mean, and whether or not this series is becoming a real rivalry. We also break down Marc-Andre Fleury’s start against the Blues, and discuss more trade rumors involving him and the Dallas Stars.

Before wrapping things up, we also discuss Art Rooney II’s comments on Le’Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Ben Roethlisberger, and Martavis Bryant, and then we talk about Clint Hurdle’s announcement of outfield position changes for the Pirates. All that, and more, in Episode 219!

Impressions of the Pens; Cutch Trade Dead?; Previewing Steelers-Bills

Start – We’re back with another jam-packed episode of the podcast! This time around, we get into Penguins talk first and break down Monday’s night’s 8-5 win against Ottawa. We talk about Fleury getting pulled, the Penguins’ ability to score at will, their issues on special teams, and more! We also talk about our impressions of the team now that we’re just about a third of the way through the season.

25-minute mark – Next is Pirates talk, and it’s more Andrew McCutchen madness. Clint Hurdle and Neal Huntington gave stating that the Pirates not being the aggressors in trade talks seems bogus to us. However, by the end of the episode we discover a new rumor that the Pirates are no longer looking to deal Cutch. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!

34:45 mark – Last, we dig into a huge AFC matchup on Sunday as the Steelers travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills. Who will win out in the battle between LeSean McCoy and the Steelers rush D? Will Tyrod Taylor’s legs be a factor? And if Ben Roethlisberger and Ladarius Green continue to develop chemistry, is there any reason to believe opposing defenses can stop the Steelers’ offense?

All that, and more (including the college coaching carousel, Malik Zaire transfer rumors, and Lamont Wade’s upcoming announcement), in Episode 196!

Steelers Dominate Giants; Kang Arrested; Pens Love to Rally

We’re back with another packed episode in 195! First off, we break down the Steelers dominant 24-14 win against the New York Giants. The score probably doesn’t exemplify how we the Steelers played in this game. It was a throwback effort. The defense was dominant and made splash plays. The offense moved the ball consistently, grounded it out with the run game, and made some big plays through the air. There was even a surprise appearance on special teams!

Next we talk briefly about the Pirates. And we mean brief. The Pirates continue to disappoint, and this time it’s Jung Ho Kang’s arrest for DUI.

Lastly, we talk about the Penguins and their ability to turn on “the switch” whenever they want. A barrage of third period goals highlighted the last week in Pens hockey, and we think it’s an encouraging sign. As is tradition, we talk goaltenders as well.

All that, and more, in Episode 195!

Steelers-Giants; See Ya Buccos; Goalie Decisions; & Crazy Rankings

We’re back with our most jam-packed episode of all time! We start off previewing the Steelers’ big-time matchup against the New York Giants on Sunday. Statistically speaking, both teams are pretty similar, but we see this as a Steelers win. We break down matchups, injury news, & keys to victory!

Next up are the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the discussion isn’t a fun one. A few players have already left for greener pastures, and it looks like the organization is ready to trade away Andrew McCutchen, Josh Harrison, and others. It’s yet another frustrating chapter in Pirates fandom, and we let loose with how we feel. Hopefully you can relate.

In Penguins talk, we discuss recent comments from general manager Jim Rutherford explaining that the goaltender rotation of Matt Murray & Marc-Andre Fleury hasn’t worked out as well as he had hoped. We give our take, and dig into a Ron Cook’s column that claims Rutherford should have shaken things up with the roster in the offseason.

And finally, we break down the latest College Football Playoff rankings! Will the Big 10 champ get screwed? We talk about how the committee has no criteria that we can make any sense of, so we offer some suggestions. We also make predictions on who will make the playoff, and then we wrap things up by talking about the current college coaching carousel. Is Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame? Could Les Miles be the Irish’s next coach? WILL LANE KIFFIN GET A HEAD COACHING GIG?!?!

All that, and much more, in Episode 193!

McCutchen Gone? Pens Lose to Rangers; Previewing Steelers-Colts

We’re back! And we’ve got a ton to talk about in Episode 190! We start off breaking down the latest trade rumors involving Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen. How does this whole situation make you feel as a Pirates fan? We talk about our thoughts and emotions.

Next we dig into the Penguins’ loss on Monday night to the New York Rangers, 5-2. Jake Guentzel was outstanding, but the rest wasn’t nearly as good. What plagued the Pens? How much do they miss Chris Kunitz and Patric Hornqvist? We also dig into Jesse Marshall’s statistical breakdown on Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury and how it breaks some common misconceptions regarding the team’s play.

Lastly, we preview the Steelers’ Thanksgiving night game in Indianapolis. Andrew Luck is probably out. Does that mean a Steelers win? Dan thinks yes. Chris doesn’t know what the hell to think. We break down all sides of the ball to see what we can uncover in this one. All that, and more, in Episode 190!

You’re hot then you’re cold; Weird week for the Bucs

Chris and Dan are back to talk about a seriously up and down week for the Pirates, sweeping the San Francisco Giants and being swept by the Miami Marlins. Dan checks in from the road, and Chris and Dan go back and forth, talking about young pitching promise, the adventure that is Ivan Nova, Gerrit Cole continuing to struggle, and how much the Marlins series negatively impacted the Bucs’ chances of grabbing one of the NL Wild Card spots. All that, and more, in Episode 143!

Neal Huntington, Clint Hurdle, & Series Wins over SD & LA

The Pirates are still playing baseball, and playing it quite well. So, we’re back to talk all things Buccos in Episode 141! We recap the NL Wild Card standings and discuss how the Pirates are defying all odds by remaining in the hunt. After breaking down winning two of three against the Padres and Dodgers, we pick apart recent comments made by Neal Huntington regarding the trade deadline. Lastly, we talk about Clint Hurdle and how much credit or blame he deserves for the way this season has played out. All that, and more, in Episode 141!

It’s Hard to Care, Bucs Split 6 Against Braves & Reds

The Pirates completed their first week of baseball post-trade deadline, and the results were mixed. They dropped 2-of-3 with Atlanta and took 2-of-3 from the Reds. That still leaves them a few games back of the second NL Wild Card spot with a lot of unanswered questions throughout the roster. We dig into that, the benching of Andrew McCutchen, Ivan Nova’s first start, another deal involving Arquimedes Caminero, and much more in Episode 137!
